Potato - 1 big ( cut into half)
Bengal gram / Channa Dal - ½ cup
Onion - 1 small( chopped)
Tomato - 1 small(chopped)
Green chili - 1 small (minced)
Turmeric powder - ¼ tsp
Hing - a pinch
Curry powder or Milagai thool -1 tsp ( have look at my previous post - Kuzhambu milagai thool)
Plain Papad - 6
Cilantro -For Granising
Water - required
Salt to taste
Oil - 2 tsp
Mustard seed - ½ tsp
Urad dal - ¼ tsp
Curry leaves - required
Garlic pods - 2 (crushed)
Pressure cook Channa dal & Potato.
Remove the skin & mash potato separately and keep it aside.
Add Onion, tomato, green chili, curry powder, Turmeric powder,Hing to the cooked channa dal & pressure cook for one whistle.
After 10mins, Open the pressure pan & add mashed potato & Cook it for another 7 mins in medium heat.
Add Salt & adjust it to taste.
Heat oil in a kadai, fry papad and allow it to cool.
Scramble papad into big piece & add to boiling kootu and turn off the heat.
In same kadai with 2 tsp of oil, add seasoning ingredients to splutter & add to the kootu.
Serve hot with white rice or roti.
